About Me
I grew up in a little town in Cameroon, a country smack down in the center of Africa. It was difficult for me to dream in an environment where corruption predetermined which school a child would go to or which job an adult would pursue. I immigrated to the United States in 1999 with a dream. The American dream. A dream that was not just my own, but also my family’s. Today I can humbly say that my dream has become an actuality. I am the doctor of pharmacy and public health professional that I had always dreamed of becoming. I have come to the realization that as we grow and change, dreams also change. Now, my dream is to empower and inspire not only fellow immigrants but also anyone around me to succeed in their own dreams if they include a career in pharmacy or public health.

I had to learn to ask, to network, to fit in, and to be confident about myself. There was no place for a shy girl like me to go to and freely ask questions regarding my aspirations to be a pharmacist without feeling stupid or unwelcome. This issue persisted as a pre-pharmacy student, during pharmacy school, and even after graduation, when I was looking for a job. The Rookie Pharmacist wants to be that place that I so longed for as a younger woman. A place where we welcome askers, a place where we provide guidance and resources for aspiring pre-pharmacy students, pharmacy students, and pharmacists.
Rookie means novice, right? Well, a rookie pharmacist is one who’s learning. What I love most about my career as a pharmacist is that I learn every day, which is one of the foundations of my life and journey. Whether you are aspiring to get into pharmacy school, are in pharmacy school, just graduated from pharmacy school, or have been practicing for a while, you are a rookie pharmacist. And you are welcome here!
